Teaching Your Own Class When You Can't Be There
(or when you can't get a reliable sub!)

As teachers, we all know what it's like when a student misses class and needs the entire lesson taught during our plan time.  We value the little plan time we get and even though we don't say it to the student, we silently think to ourselves, "Why did you have to be gone? I've already been over that!"

When a teacher is absent, students often get the same feeling.  Even though they may enjoy the break away from the teacher for the day, extended absences by the teacher can be difficult for students to handle, especially if the substitute if not competent in the subject area.  Leaving worksheets and "busy work" is not an effective teaching tool and can leave the substitute dealing with discipline issues.  How about getting your students engaged by showing them your 21st Century skills?
